Merrick is a hamlet and census-designated place in the Town of Hempstead in Nassau County, on the South Shore of Long Island, in New York, United States. Merrick is bordered by North Merrick to the north, Merrick Bay to the south, Freeport to the west, and Bellmore to the east. The hamlet has a total area of 5.2 square miles, of which 4.2 square miles is land and 1.0 square miles is water.

Sunrise Highway serves as Merrick’s thoroughfare traversing the west-east as well as Merrick Road. Meadowbrook State Parkway barely passes within the northwest border and enters again within Merrick’s boundary at the southwest border. Other main roads serving Merrick: Merrick Avenue (runs south-north direction), Smith Street (intersect with Babylon Turnpike to the west and turns into Grand Avenue after exiting through the east border)

Merrick is home to Norman J. Levy Park & Preserve and can be accessed by Merrick Road. Nearby is the Merrick Golf Course, overseeing the Mud Creek and Merrick Bay to the south. A short distance ahead north is the Town of Hempstead Sanitation Department. Cammanns Pond County Park is only about 1 kilometer away to the east, close to Norman J Levy Lakeside School, and flows through Simmons Pond.

Schools serving the students within Merrick are Calhoun High School, Merrick Avenue Middle School, Merrick Community Nursery School, Cure of Ars Religious Education, Merokee Day School, Birch School, and Children’s Nest Early Childhood Education Center.

North Merrick Public Library lies at the northwest section of Merrick (about 300 meters away from Calhoun High School) and can be accessed by Meadowbrook Road. Going south then Babylon Turnpike then west of Sunrise Highway then Merrick Avenue would be The Merrick Library.
