South Hempstead Nassau

South Hempstead is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) in the Town of Hempstead in Nassau County, on Long Island, in New York, United States. It is sandwiched between the Town of Hempstead and the hamlets of Rockville Centre and Baldwin. South Hempstead has a total land area of 0.6 square miles (1.6 km2).

Southern State Parkway passes through the north boundary and forms a natural border. Hempstead Avenue defines the west border as well; whereas Grand Avenue defines the east border. The Long Beach Roads bisect the west-east. The commercial area is along Grand Avenue with Baldwin.

South Hempstead is mostly residential and only has a few landmarks and government offices located in the neighborhood. South Hempstead Volunteer Fire Department is on 555 May Street (a block away from Long Beach Road). William S. Covert Elementary School is also on Long Beach Road and the only lone school. Few houses of worship such as Christ Embassy Long Island Cell Fellowship, Congregational Church of South Hempstead and W.E.L.A.

Establishments along the commercial area are Spices Negril Restaurant & Lounge, Advance Auto Parts, Bank of America, Millennium Laundromat, Taco Bell, and Pit Stop Repair Shop. Other food restaurants are Radigan’s Pub And Casual Dining and Curbside Mexican Grill.
