Garden City Nassau

Garden City is a village in Nassau County, New York, United States, in the Town of Hempstead. Garden City is located approximately 18.5 miles (29.8 km) east of Midtown Manhattan in New York City. The village has a total area of 13.8 square kilometers (13.8 square miles). The village borders Hempstead, West Hempstead, Garden City South and Franklin Square to the north, Garden City Park and Mineola to the south. Stewart Manor is at the west border.

The commercial area can be accessed by Franklin Avenue stretching 1 and a half miles from the south and north boundary. It intersects with Stewart Avenue which runs towards the east, also intersecting with Clinton Road running diagonally towards the northeast tip of the border. Clinton Road (Nassau County Route 1) traverses the village and is one of its major north-south thoroughfares. Old Country Road (Nassau County Route 25) forms much of Garden City’s northern border.

Notable Landmarks include:

Adelphi University at 1 South Ave; Roosevelt Field (shopping mall) at 630 Old Country Rd; Apostle House at 15 Rockaway Ave; Cathedral of the Incarnation at 50 Cathedral Ave; and Saint Paul’s School at 295 Stewart Ave.

The village is also teeming with parks and recreational areas such as Cherry Valley Club, St. Paul’s Recreation Complex, Strawberry Field, Edgemere Park, Garden City Country Club, and The Garden City Bird Sanctuary. Garden City Department of Recreation and Parks sits in the heart of the village at 108 Rockaway Ave.

Garden City Middle School and Garden City High School serve as public schools for students of Garden Village.

A total of four Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) train stations can be found in the village. The stops are Stewart Manor, Nassau Boulevard, Garden City and Country Life Press on the LIRR’s Hempstead Branch. Additional LIRR Main Line stops are located just over the Garden City border at New Hyde Park, Merillon Avenue, and Mineola. Furthermore, the Nassau Inter-County Express NICE bus system provides several bus lines that traverse the village.
