Elwood is a census-designated place in Suffolk County, New York, on Long Island. Huntington is the town where Elwood is located. A sign located at the intersection of Elwood Road and Cuba Hill Road once referred to Elwood as “The Heart of Huntington.” However, the sign now depicts a heart rather than the word. It has a total area of 4.8 square miles.

It borders the CDP’s of South Huntington, Huntington Station, Greenlawn, East Northport, Commack, and Dix Hills. East Jericho Turnpike serves as a boundary to the south with Dix Hills, it’s also where the commercial strip is located. The roads of Warner Road from the southwest, Cuba Hill Road from the northwest, Elwood Road from the north, and Burr Road from the east all intersect in the middle of the hamlet.

Berkeley Jackson County Park is the largest park in Elwood occupying the southern area between Manor Road and Warner Road. At the fork of Cuba Hill Road and Elwood Road is where Elwood Park lies. At the northwest corner is where Squires Nature Park occupies.

Several places of education serve Elwood including James H. Boyd Intermediate School on Cuba Hill Road, Elwood Special Education and John Glenn High School on Elwood Road, Elwood Middle School on Kenneth Avenue, and Harley Avenue Primary on Harley Avenue. To the north of Elwood Road Island Christian Church, the lone church in Elwood.
