Central Islip is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) within the Town of Islip in Suffolk County, New York, United States. According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 7.1 square miles (18.4 km2).

Major roads within the hamlet of Islip are Suffolk County Road 17 (also known as Carleton Avenue through most of the community and Wheeler’s Road north of Suffolk Avenue, runs parallel to NY Route 111 (Islip Avenue) from its southern terminus at NY 27A in Islip to its northern terminus at NY 111 near the Long Island Expressway at Exit 56 in Hauppauge), Suffolk County Road 67 (also known as the Long Island Motor Parkway runs along the northern edge of the community), Suffolk County Road 100 (also known as Suffolk Avenue, is the main west-to-east route through the community, running from Suffolk County Road 13 in Brentwood to New York State Route 454 in Islandia), and Southern State Parkway (Exit 43A) runs within nearby Islip Terrace but is close enough to the Islip Terrace/Central Islip border.

Islip Town Firefighters Museum is located within the community, adjacent to Suffolk County District Court Clerk’s Office – First District Criminal and United States District Court Eastern District of New York just to the south. Right across on Carleton Avenue, is the SUSA Sports Complex. Another sports complex namely Central Islip Ball Field Complex can be accessed through Carleton Avenue then left to Court House Drive and north on Eastview Drive, passing Fairfield Properties Ballpark along the way. Other leisure places in the community include Central Islip Little League, Gull Haven Golf Course, Central Islip Recreation Village Park. To the eastern border is where Parkview Riding Center Inc sits within the vicinity of Connetquot River State Park Preserve in Oakdale. Connetquot Brook also flows within the community up to the northeast boundary.

Central Islip Station is on the Long Island Rail Road’s Ronkonkoma Branch. In Islip Terrace, there are many bus stops along the 3C, 3D, 42, 45, and 54. Suffolk Transportation Service, Inc. operates and maintains local buses.
