Shirley is a hamlet in Suffolk County, New York, United States and is a community in the Town of Brookhaven, on the South Shore of Long Island. It stretches about 7.65 mi (12.31 km) across from north to south and has a total area of 11.9 square miles (30.8 km2), of which 11.5 square miles (29.7 km2) is land and 0.42 square miles (1.1 km2) is covered by water.

East Yaphank is another designation for the northern extent of Shirley. The USPS accepts the name Shirley, Smith Point and East Yaphank for this neighborhood. Yaphank and Brookhaven border it from the west; Mastic in the east and Mastic Beach sitting in the southeast; Upton up north and Fire Island in the south across Narrow Bay.

Two interchange meets in the middle of Shirley namely Sunrise Highway and William Floyd Parkway. From the north border to Smith Point County Park, William Floyd Parkway covers about a total distance of 7.61 mi (12.24 km). Starting from the intersection where Sunrise Highway divides William Floyd Parkway going north leads towards Brookhaven Calabro Airport at 135 Dawn Dr and heading south leads to Smith Point in Fire Island.

Long Island Skydiving Center at 133 Dawn Dr is also within the vicinity of Brookhaven Calabro Airport. Shirley is also home to Manor of St. George. The Wertheim National Wildlife Refuge occupies the western stretch of the border covering a portion of Brookhaven. To the southern end of the territory is the Smith Point County Park in the Fire Island which can be accessed by William Floyd Parkway.

Mastic-Shirley Long Island Rail Road station serves Shirley. As one of only two bridges connecting Long Island and Fire Island, the Smith Point Bridge allows beachgoers to reach the ocean without taking a ferry.
