Freeport is a village in the Town of Hempstead, in Nassau County, on the South Shore of Long Island, in New York, United States. The south part of the village is penetrated by several canals that allow access to the Atlantic Ocean by means of passage through salt marshes. The oldest canal is the late 19th-century Woodcleft Canal. The village has a total area of 4.6 square miles
The village is bisected by east-west New York State Route 27 (Sunrise Highway). The Meadowbrook State Parkway defines its eastern boundary. Both roads intersect together at the easternmost area of the village along the East Meadow Pond. N Main Street bisects the village midway north-south and turns into S Main Street after passing Sunrise Highway to the south.
Freeport is home to many attractions and recreational places such as Freeport Historical Museum at 350 S Main Street, Freeport Recreation Center just 4 blocks away, Long Island Sports Complex just a block away west on Mill Road, Freeport Northeast Park along Parsons Avenue, Glacken Park at the westernmost part of the village along Sunrise Highway. Sandwich between Baldwin and Freeport is the Millburn Pond Park and Millburn Creek Park. Cow Meadow Park is the southern edge of the border surrounded by Emory Creek.

Freeport is served by the Freeport station on the Long Island Rail Road’s Babylon Branch. Freeport also serves as a hub for several Nassau Inter-County Express bus routes.
