Palmer Vineyards

Palmer Vineyards was established by Robert Palmer in 1983 on land that used to be a potato field in the Riverhead area. The winery is headed up by Miguel Martin, a Spaniard from Andalucia, who has spent the last 10 years adapting his European skills to the sandy soils of Long Island. He was the first in the region to plant Albariño which has become a huge success for the winery – selling out every year.

Palmer Vineyards is a picturesque place to enjoy a variety of lovingly crafted wines. Owned and operated by wine aficionado Robert Palmer, who crafts each wine with care and skill. The wine tasting bar offers a relaxed setting for guests to sample the range of red, white, and sparkling wine on offer.

The tasting room is set in the wine cellar. There you can decide between wine inside or outside on the porch with sweeping views of vines, ponds and rolling hills. The wine list is extensive with over 100 wines offered by the glass.

Inside you are greeted with a fireplace, high ceilings, exposed beams and polished wood floors. The bar located towards one end of the wine cellar features 9 different wines to taste by the glass as well as an impressive range of American whiskies. You can also buy any wine at retail price to take away with your wine club membership card.

When visiting Palmer Vineyards in Riverhead, NY it is best to avoid weekends if possible because it tends to get very busy. A popular wine with visitors is their Viognier which they make in a dry, medium and sweet style from grapes grown on the south-facing side of Sound Avenue.

Although tastings are free, you do have the option of joining a wine club if you find a wine you particularly like. In return for buying 6 bottles per year, they will release it to your wine club account at a 10% discount before anyone else can buy it! As well as being able to buy wines at discount prices wine club members also receive a 10% discount in both tasting room and retail wine store. This membership is open to non-residents though so tourists are welcome to join.

Catering for private functions is also available at Palmer Vineyards. Visitors are welcome to take tours through the vineyard upon request. Prices vary depending on group size, but larger groups can expect discounted rates when they book in advance.

Palmer Vineyards is located in the heart of the Long Island wine region. It’s well worth exploring nearby vineyards after finishing your wine tasting session at Palmer’s.

In summary, Palmer Vineyards is a wine tasting experience that should not be missed. The wine cellar provides a unique atmosphere to enjoy wine, whether you join a wine club or just taste the wine-by-the-glass.
